Camp Wa-Klo is an all girls and gender minorities, residential camp located in Dublin, New Hampshire. We have a small, dedicated nursing staff who oversees our 140 campers and 60 staff on a daily basis. We are looking for someone to cover July 25- August 20, or work any combination of weeks therein. Starting salary is $1,350 and includes room & board.
Being the camp nurse is an active part in what we strive to be as a camp. It includes the promotion of good health, prevention of injuries as well as monitoring health and cleanliness standards pertaining to camp and the facilities while being responsible for the care of ill or injured campers and staff. ● Maintain an active nursing license in the State of New Hampshire with up to date BLS/CPR certification. Additional certifications preferred. Be able to provide such documentation. ● Experience in emergency, trauma or pediatric/school nursing preferred. Direct Health Responsibilities: ● Ensure each staff member and camper has a clear and accurate health record on file including a health history and examination form, as required. Discuss with staff any pertinent camper health information, and make recommendations for the following summer season as needed. ● Ability to keep neat and orderly records of all care rendered, including injuries, over the counter medicine, first aid, communication with parents or licensed independent providers from off camp facilities. ● Take initiative, be self-sufficient and have the ability to recognize when a higher level of care is necessary and be able to provide stabilizing care until a higher level is reached. Keep staff and parents up to date on current information and status. ● Understanding of baseline and normal stages of health, growth and development. ● Maintain the confidentiality of campers and staffs with regards to health history ● Provide emotional support, an open and safe place for staff and campers to go to when necessary to discuss various physical and emotional needs. This includes but is not limited to some good old-fashioned TLC when homesickness kicks in. ● Be on-site for check-in of staff and campers to provide baseline health screening, head check, review health histories and other medical forms. ● Establish and maintain open lines of communication for staff and leadership regarding the health and well-being of campers and staff. ● Make appointments, when necessary, with medical/dental/specialty offices in the local community and follow up as needed. ● Maintain a list of staff and campers who are on trips including medication administration while out of camp, providing and maintaining first aid kits and instruction for needs while away from direct nursing supervision. ● Makes sure that all medications brought to camp are checked for accuracy and expiration and are locked in the Pill Box and dispensed under the nurse’s care. Keeps record of pills administered to whom and when they are given. ● Keep accident/incident reports that can be used for risk-management assessment. ● Be a medical resource that would bridge the gap between basic medical knowledge and calling 911. ● Conduct inventory of supplies and medications and place orders when necessary, ensuring timely arrival of supplies. Keep the infirmary clean and organized.
Other Qualifications ● Enjoy working with kids ● Hard-working, enthusiastic and committed to the safety and well- being of campers ● Adaptable and comfortable living in a camp setting and interacting positively with other camp staff. ● Good communicator with campers, staff and parents. ● Friendly, happy, with a good sense of humor (laughter can be the best medicine) as well as a little TLC! ● Must be FLEXIBLE and accommodating to the changes in camps schedule ● Be able to laugh, be ready for anything and most importantly HAVE FUN!!! |

Salay starts at $1,350 depending on experience and includes room & board. You must have a valid New Hampshire nursing licesnse to work, and camp will reinburse you if you need to transfer yours. If you like working in a small dedicated team, being in the great outdoors, being flexiable and providing care for youth than this is the place for you!
