The Irish Goverment has opened up special visa program for Nurses from the United States and Canada to be able to work in the Country (this is the first time in the history of the country that special visa status has been granted for nurses) so it's your opportunity to work as a nurse abroad!  
The positions are for 1-2 years within hospitals, and you have a choice between multiple floors including Medical Surgical Floors, Step Down Units, ICU and ER positions.  You will directly be employed by the hospital - which entititles you to 100% medical benefits and be enrolled into the Irish Pension System. In addition, those traveling with a family receive a monthly "child stipend" for those under the age of 18, from the goverment to help raising children. As well as if you have children of College age - they can attend College within the Country at the rates of those living in Ireland (a fraction of Ameican tuition). But what is even better, is that you will gain international work experience at some amazing hospitals.  

There is an amazing package to come to Ireland including flights, housing stipend, full salary and benefits, 4 weeks of paid vacation, 3 day work week (3: 12 hour shifts) which leave you free to travel Europe on your time off!

We will be holding a Critical Care recruitment event on Saturday 18th February 2017 at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. 

In terms of what we have to offer:

All new starters are allocated a team with an identified team leader; this team leader will be responsible for ensuring you have your annual appraisal and personal development plan to ensure your continuous development during your Critical Care career. 

Each unit has an educational pathway to support ongoing educational development to enable all staff to maximize their potential in providing safe and effective care. This is supported by a very proactive educational team. All areas have service improvement teams to ensure that the best evidenced based practice is provided for all patients. All staff are actively encouraged to participate within these service improvement groups. 

All units participate in research trials to ensure the continuous improvement in care for this patient population. 

In recognition of the specialist nature of this area we provide new nurses a four week supernumerary with an identified preceptor. During this time you will be provided with a competency framework which will provide the focus for your learning. In conjunction to this you will work with the practice educator team to facilitate your clinical development. 

Should you be successful in obtaining a staff nurse position in Critical Care there is the added opportunity of rotating across all of the fours clinical to further enhance your experience. Within all the units we offer electronic self roistering to help support individuals work life balance requirements.

The clinical areas that encompass Critical Care are- 
General ICU: This is a 32 bedded adult tertiary referral unit accepting patients from all over Wales. The main specialties include general medicine & surgery, neurology & neurosurgery, trauma & orthopedics, advanced respiratory support and renal medicine. There are 13 medical consultants and 11 sister/charge nurses on the unit which will support your transition.

Cardiac ICU: This is currently a 9 bedded ICU with a 4 bedded high dependency unit (HDU). This clinical area is supported medically by cardiac surgeons and cardiac anesthetists.

T4 Neurosciences
This is an 18 bedded high care neurosurgical unit, providing tertiary care to all neurosurgical and neurological patients. Patients are treated electively and as emergencies for brain tumours, subarachnoid haemorrhages, sub dural haematomas, post traumatic brain injuries, and other conditions requiring neurosurgical intervention. All patients on this unit are nursed on a 1 nurse to 3 patient ratio.

PACU : This is an 8 bedded unit which specializes in providing post operative care to high risk surgical patients. This provides care to level 3 and level 2 post operative patients. Currently this unit opens on Monday at midday and closes at 14.00 hours on a Saturday. It is closed on all bank holidays including Christmas. Patients in this unit are nursed according to their dependency.
