Monday 5:30am-2pm

Tuesday: 5:30am-9am then 3:45pm-8/8:30pm

Wednesday: 5:30am-2pm

Thursday: 5:30am-2pm

Friday: 5:30am-1pm

Saturday, Sunday, Holidays: 6:30am-9:30/10:00am

Typically a Monday-Friday job. May be required to cover a weekend or a Holiday at times.

Summary: Provides nursing care, patient observation and medical support services for adults with substance abuse, mental health and psychiatric disorders. Identify crisis situations and be able to handle situations appropriately. Setting of treatment is conducted in an opioid treatment outpatient program. Duties are performed under the immediate supervision of the Medical Director and the nurse is expected to participate in regularly scheduled clinical supervision with the Nurse Supervisor and/or Medical Director.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts nursing assessments to obtain medical information on each patient
  • Complete EKG’s, blood sugar checks, blood pressure, vital signs
  • Administer medication to patients; coordinate guest dosing
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and committee meetings as assigned
  • Coordinate monthly Urine Drug Screens/Inform counselors of all positive UDS Results
  • File all medical records, medical orders, Urine Drug Screens and doctor’s orders
  • Order and ensure safekeeping of Methadone
  • Maintains patient records, assessments, progress notes and evaluations, practicing HIPPA standards and regulations.

· Function as part of a team, maintaining close working relationships with staff members.

· Makes appropriate referrals and maintains good working relationships with other medical professionals, referral sources, treatment providers and other social agencies.

· Makes recommendations for discharge/aftercare planning and makes appropriate referrals for follow-up care.

· Follows established policy and procedures specific to WPSTC.

· Prepares and submits reports as deemed necessary by Clinical Director.

· Provides crisis intervention services as deemed necessary and appropriate.

· Assist Medical Director as needed and/or scheduled per number of intakes scheduled each week to also include evening shift

· Other duties as assigned by Clinical Director.

Minimum Qualifications: Registrations, Certifications or Licenses:

Candidate must have a minimum degree of a Registered Nurse who is licensed to practice in North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing and has one year experience in substance abuse/mental health population. A criminal background check and Healthcare Personnel Registry check will be required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

· Knowledge of substance abuse, mental health and psychiatric disorders.

· Knowledge of medications and side effects, good nursing judgment

· Knowledge of alcohol/drug withdrawal symptoms and complications due to addiction.

· Knowledge of clinical supervision process and when to seek additional supervision.

· Skills to be able to evaluate patient’s needs

· Skills to be able to identify crisis situations and be able to handle situation appropriately.

· Skill in organization and time management.

· Skill in communicating clearly in diverse work settings.

· Skill in recording concisely required medical record documentation

· Ability to maintain and protect the confidentiality of clients.

· Ability to work independently and follow through with assignments.

· Ability to conduct nursing assessments and document clear and concise reports.

· Ability to work with diverse populations of clients.

· Ability to recognize and respond to dangerous and emergency situations.

· Ability to maintain a harmonious working relationship with other staff members.

Education and/or Experience:

· Minimum of Associates of Science Degree in Nursing (ASN)

· Any other combination of experience of education in substance abuse field that would suggest a level of proficiency.

· Ability to pass an extensive criminal background check.

· Ability to pass a drug screen test.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Due to the nature of the work, potential hazards exist when dealing with patients.

Physical Requirements:

The duties of the registered nurse position require sitting, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, pulling, twisting, kneeling and will occasionally be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
