JOB DESCRIPTION
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) position provides quality nursing care to residents; implements specific procedures and programs; coordinates work within the department, as well as with other departments; reports pertinent information to the immediate supervisor; responds to inquiries or requests for information; and assists the immediate supervisor with tasks to support department operations.

Essential Functions

  • Provide quality nursing care to residents in an environment that promotes their rights, dignity, freedom of choice and individuality.

  • Provide individualized attention, which encourages each resident’s ability to maintain or attain the highest practical physical, mental and psychosocial well-being.

  • Contribute to the care planning process by providing the charge nurse or other care planning staff with specific information and observations of the residents’ needs and preferences.

  • Attend to the individual needs of residents, which may include assistance with grooming, bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, incontinent care, toileting, colostomy care, prosthetic appliances, transferring, ambulation, range of motion, communicating or other needs in keeping with the individuals’ care requirements.

  • Maintains the comfort, privacy, and dignity of residents in the delivery of services to them.

  • Interact with residents in a manner that displays warmth and promotes a caring environment.

  • Observes residents for changes in condition or behavior and promptly reports these changes to appropriate licensed nursing personnel.

  • Lifts, moves and transports residents, using proper body mechanics or lifting devices for accident prevention.

  • Communicates and interacts effectively and tactfully with the residents, visitors, families, peers and supervisors.

  • Perform all job responsibilities in accordance with prescribed safety and infection control procedures, including thorough hand washing, use of disposable gloves where indicated and proper disposal of soiled materials as per OSHA guidelines and standards and/or direction of CDC Comply with the System's infection control policies and procedures including Body Substance Isolation (BSI) and the Exposure Control Plan which reflects OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard to ensure a safe working environment for self and others.

Physical Demands

  • This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift or move objects and patients weighing over 50 pounds.

Required Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma

  • California Certified Nursing Assistant Certification

Patient experience will be enhanced by consolidating services to the Menino side of the campus, expanding our Emergency Department, modernizing surgical suites, and offering patients and staff the most efficient clinical care spaces possible.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • One year of experience as a working and licensed Registered Nurse.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with an Associate’s degree or Baccalaureate degree in nursing (BSN). BSN preferred.
  • Candidates who do not have a BSN must be enrolled in a Baccalaureate program within 6 months of hire and must complete their BSN within 36 months of hire.
  • Registration and current RN licensure in the state of MA in good standing required.
  • 12 Months of Critical Care experience is REQUIRED.
  • Requires current basic life support (BLS) certification. Some units may require Advanced Cardiac Life support (ACLS) certification
  • Additional certifications may be required for certain practice area.
  • Willingness to work every other weekend.
 
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Basic computer proficiency inclusive of ability to access, enters, and interpret computerized data/information.
  • EPIC experience preferred.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to facilitate communication with various members of the health care team, patients, and families.
  • Organizational skills to set priorities and efficiently complete assigned work.
  • Multilingual skills (beyond that of English) in languages appropriate to the patient populations served by the medical center preferred.
  • Relevant clinical experience and/or specialty, certification required for certain practice areas, e.g., enterostomal therapy, epidemiology, perioperative areas.
  • Analytical ability to solve clinical nursing issues and conduct quality improvement research utilization projects.
  • Ability to effectively delegate appropriate patient care activities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills appropriate to the patient populations served.
  • Physical ability to meet the core job responsibilities in accordance with practice setting demands for the patient populations regularly served.
  • Ability to effectively manage stress due to critical issues related to patient care, changing organizational climate and personnel issues.

Qualifications

  • Must be self-directed, motivated and serve as role model for management and staff throughout the organization
  • Must be capable of managing multiple operational and development projects simultaneously
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, conflict resolution and mediation skills.
  • Able to effectively write reports and business correspondence and present information to groups
  • Bilingual (Spanish) a plus
  • Valid driver license
