Job Description: Talisman is a residential summer camp for young people with high-functioning autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, or ADHD.  The camp nurse lives on-campus all summer (one day off per week) and oversees all health care needs of the campers and staff.  This includes doing health screenings, supervising medication administration, treating minor injuries and illness, accompanying campers to the doctor, and communicating with parents.  The nurse is encouraged to participate in camp activities.  Optionally, the nurse may work in exchange for their child’s camp tuition.
 
Qualifications:  RN preferred, LPN considered.  Camp will pay to transfer out-of-state licenses.  Experience in a camp or school setting preferred, and experience working with people with high-functioning autism is helpful.  Ability to live on-campus with flexible hours.  Strong organizational skills, positive customer service attitude, and understanding of child development.

Summary/General Description of Job:

 

Assists with providing nursing care for students who are sick and/or injured, prevention of illness and promotion of good health within limits of state RN licensure and in compliance with government, corporate, and management directives.

 

Essential Duties & Job Functions:

  • Triage of emergency or urgent situations; administer emergency or first aid care; triage students who report to clinic during drop-in time.
  • Assessment and treatment of illness utilizing protocols or referral to physician as appropriate.
  • Assist physician or nurse practitioner with examinations and scheduling.
  • Track labs/testing to ensure continuation of care and for billing purposes.
  • Track immunizations for compliance with federal and state law, and job corps requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date student medical records.
  • Follow-up on minor and major illness by phone interview and/or appointment with physician.
  • Schedule and track follow-up appointments.
  • Administer prescription medications as ordered by the doctor.
  • Teach student about all aspects of illness or condition.
  • Teach wellness and self-care via one-on-one with students, presenting classes, and setting a positive example.
  • Maintain and order prescription inventory, follow-up with supply orders and screen for expiration dates.
  • Maintain and supply common non-prescription medications to work areas, industry classrooms and dorms.
  • Provide in-service instruction to staff on a wide variety of subjects.
  • Maintain a working relationship with outside agencies.
  • Serve on committees as appointed.
  • Function as reproductive health coordinator.  Conduct functional evaluations and track prenatal care.

LPN for LNA Instructor Position ,

Looking for LPN with at least 2 years experience in long term care to join our team instructing Nursing Assistants (LNAs). We have several open positions, including a per-diem position in Manchester. This class would meet three days per week (specific days are flexible), from 7 am - 3 pm, over a 5-week period. After each 5-week session, there could be an option to have a week off. Classes would start in December. If you are willing to travel to some of our other locations (Dover, Nashua, etc) we would increase your pay rate for those classes. Montana State Hospital (MSH) is a 209 bed state psychiatric hospital located in Warm Springs, Montana. MSH is the only state hospital in Montana. The Hospital averages 600 admissions per year. Procedures for hospital admission are specified in state law. Montana State Hospital is located in the Deer Lodge Valley between Butte and Missoula. This location is ideal for individuals or families seeking to locate in a smaller community with good schools. Easy access to local airports and the interstate freeway system make travel convenient. Nearby outdoor recreation opportunities abound and include hiking, downhill and cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, fishing, hunting, golf, rafting, kayaking, and wildlife watching.

**Registered Nurses earn additional differential pay of $2.00 per hour for evening shifts and $1.50 per hour for weekend shifts. **

Montana State Hospital provides acute care psychiatric inpatient treatment for adults with serious mental illness. This position performs nursing assessment, planning, interventions, and evaluation for adult clients in the facility. Responsibilities include assigning work and providing direction and training to subordinate nursing personnel.

Major Duties or Responsibilities:

A. Patient Care

• Admits patients to the hospital in accordance with state statutes and hospital policies.

• Completes and records initial and subsequent nursing assessment of each patient’s physical and mental status according to hospital format and policy using interview, observation skills, and physical assessment techniques and communicates findings verbally and/or via written documentation.

• Provides, structures, and maintains a therapeutic environment in collaboration with the patient and other members of the healthcare team.

• Intervenes during psychiatric emergencies/patient crisis using nonverbal, verbal, physical, and mechanical techniques in accordance with hospital policy.

• Authorizes restriction of patient rights in accordance with hospital policy when such restrictions are necessary to achieve treatment goals.

• Assists physician with diagnostic procedures, treatment regimes, and patient examinations according to standards of practice.

• Responds to medical emergencies using skills of rapid assessment; directs and provides emergency interventions in order to stabilize patient’s condition.

• Participates with providers in developing a patient plan of care and acts to implement as directed.

• Receives and transcribes verbal and written provider’s orders according to established policy standards to ensure accurate treatment of patients.

• Administers medications and medical treatments as prescribed.

• Evaluates and communicates verbally and via written documentation patient's response to interventions in relation to established measurable goals and objectives in order to revise baseline data, nursing diagnosis, and treatment interventions.

• Updates plan of care based on nursing assessment which identifies specific measurable goals, objectives and interventions in accordance with hospital policies and state law to ensure individualized treatment.

• Collaborates with the multi-disciplinary hospital treatment team and community mental health team in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating programs/activities to ensure appropriate individualized treatment services.

• Coordinates and provides individual and group counseling based on standards of nursing practice.

B. Charge Nurse Duties

• Assigns and directs the nursing care provided for each patient on a daily basis through the use of written schedules, work assignments, and oral communication to ensure compliance with individual treatment plans.

• Authorizes, monitors, and accurately documents the use of restraints and seclusion based on sound clinical judgment in accordance with hospital policy to ensure the provision of patient safety, dignity, and least restrictive environment.

• Provides direction to staff related to performance, guidance, and implementation of hospital policy.

• Provides direction to nursing care nursing staff to include Licensed Practical Nurses, Resident Care Aides, and Special Duty Aides.

• Teaches basic medical and psychiatric nursing skills and interventions, as well as hospital policies and procedures to treatment program personnel utilizing formal and informal teaching techniques to promote knowledge and skill development.

C. Professional Development

• Contributes to the development standards related to patient care and nursing procedure through participation on hospital committees and assigned task groups.

• Participates in professional development activities and continuing educational programs to ensure currency in nursing practices and trends.

• Adheres to the nurse practice act of Montana and all laws and rules governing the practice of registered nurses in order to maintain high standards of care and current licensure.

Physical and Environmental Demands: Professional Clinical, Medical, and Nursing Services positions primarily work on treatment units and in a clinic setting. These positions are involved in the treatment of persons who pose unpredictable and physically aggressive behavior requiring staff intervention and possible risk of injury to staff. Employees in these positions may be expected to assist with patient crisis interventions. These positions are also involved in the evaluation and treatment of persons with histories of serious criminal acts. Training in hospital approved intervention techniques and Mental Health Professional Person Certification are required.
