DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This is the second in a series of five nursing-related job classifications within the Medical job family. This classification practices under the supervision of a Physician, Registered Nurse, or other similarly licensed supervisory health care practitioner and performs direct patient care functions within the scope of the vocational nurse licensure. Incumbents perform nursing duties of moderate complexity that require a moderate degree of initiative and independent judgment. This classification is distinguished from the Registered Nurse I and Registered Nurse II in that incumbents have not graduated from an accredited Registered Nursing program or do not coordinate the medical treatment of patients. This classification may require work in secure facilities. This classification may require a flexible work schedule in order to meet the needs of the department.
Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responds to patients' medical needs. Provides and/or arranges for treatment according to protocol and/or direction from authorized medical staff.
  • Consults with clinical and administrative staff about patient health care issues.
  • Responds to and assesses certain categories of emergent patient illnesses and injuries.
  • Provides direct health care to patients, including wound care, medication administration, monitoring of vital signs, and laboratory procedures.
  • Assists other medical staff, as required.
  • Practices safety, environmental and/or infection control methods.
  • Documents patient's condition and maintains patient medical files and records in computer. Performs other administrative duties.
  • Inventories medications on a daily basis.
  • Assists in dental, STD and other clinic settings.

  • May process patients into the facility by screening and evaluating their medical and mental histories.

Minimum Requirements
Education and Experience:
Graduation from an accredited Licensed Vocational Nursing program AND one (1) year of Licensed Vocational Nursing experience.

Licenses, Registrations, Certifications, or Special Requirements:
Current license to practice as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in the State of Texas.
Current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification.

  •           Assures completion of Performance Evaluations for staff in writing on a yearly basis.

  • Conducts regular nursing and other milieu meetings.

LPR International is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner to work full time at the U.S. Army Fort Hunter Liggett Medical Aid Station in Jolon, CA. In this position, the successful candidate will provide medical care and treatment to patients, maintain records and will be responsible for pharmacy operations within the Medical Aid Station at Fort Hunter Liggett, CA to include oversight of the Pharmacy Technician.

 

Qualifications:

Must possess a master's degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position. Areas of specialties for NP positions include, but are not limited to, Acute Care, Community Health, Family, Geriatric, Home Health or other specialties identified for the position.

 

Education:

  • Graduated from an accredited master's level or doctoral program with additional knowledge to practice in their clinical specialty.
  • Contractor personnel shall be required to meet Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements in Army Regulation 351-3 (AR 351-3) or as determined by the provider's State of licensure, whichever is more stringent. The Government will not reimburse for these costs.

 

Licensure/Certifications:

  • Possess and maintain a current unrestricted license to practice as a NP in any of the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands and be able to obtain clinical privileges to practice medicine at the MTF where services are provided.
  • Must have or obtain a current, valid Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration number prior to performing the contract services. Any change to the DEA requirements to obtain a valid DEA registration number is applicable when the incumbent's existing DEA registration expires.
  • Have and maintain certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Centre (ANCC) or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
  • Be certified by a nationally recognized certifying body appropriate to the specialty area of practice.
  • Possess a Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs (BNDD) number as required by state agencies where the provider is licensed.
  • Have and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. The American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers is the only program accepted. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification is desirable, but not required.

 

Experience:

  • Have a minimum of one year of experience within the last three years working as a Nurse Practitioner.  

 

Specific Duties/Tasks:

  • Provide medical care, to include sick call, and treatment of diseases and/or injuries. Review medical histories and progress of patients. Examine patients, make diagnosis of disease, or injury, and treat patient or prescribe a course of treatment. Abide by all facility rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Seek advice of consultants, when appropriate.
  • Oversee and monitor other medical personnel in the care and treatment of patients to include non­therapeutic services such as physical examinations
  • Set up sterile field and prepares heparinized saline solutions. Maintains aseptic technique, manipulates wires and catheters, anticipates catheter tip location, operates fluoroscopic single-plane and bi-plane x-ray equipment and selects appropriate angulations and positions x-ray table and image intensifier for optimal display of angiographic anatomy while assisting physician in conducting various medical procedures.
  • Prescribe medications, as appropriate, and in accordance with the privileges, hospital rules, and regulations.
  • Prepare documentation of all treatment provided in accordance with hospital directives, ensuring that all documentation and reports are legible and complete. Utilize the appropriate electronic medical record system for patient encounters if available
  • Refer all requests for patient/hospital information that cannot be handled by clinic personnel to the Patient Administration Division. After normal duty hours, requests should be referred to the Administrative Officer of the Day (AOD) or appropriate authorized personnel. Neither the contractor nor HCPs shall release medical information without prior coordination with the AOD.
  • Adhere to the Center for Disease Control guidelines concerning universal precautions and the MTF Infection Control Program at all times while providing services under this contract.
  • Perform all duties in such a manner that they meet all JC standards.
  • Clearly communicate to other health personnel either orally or in writing the findings, diagnosis, and planned treatment regimen or referral.

  • Provide life, limb, and eyesight emergency care as able and immediately transfer patients in a medical or surgical emergency to a hospital under a physician care as necessary.

  • Independently prescribe medications from approved formulary. Administer intra-muscular or intravenous medication as appropriate. Issues temporary profiles according to policy provided by the governing MTF.
  • Communicate in writing and verbally to line commanders/supervisors to recommend appropriate limitations to performance of military duties for patients. The written guidance is provided using appropriate forms such as temporary profiles IA W Army regulations to include placing profiles into eProfile system.
  • Provide clinical supervision of RNs & LPNs and other ancillary personnel who rotate through the Medical Aid Station ensuring patient safety and compliance with MEDCOM regulations on scope of practice for medics and nursing personnel.
  • Be responsible for pharmacy operations within the Medical Aid Station to include oversight of the Pharmacy Technician and reviewing all prescriptions before they are dispensed.
