Froedtert Health is looking for a dedicated RN with a passion for post-op care for our extended recovery unit. The Staff Registered Nurse is a practitioner who is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for an identified group of patients in an inpatient environment. This individual demonstrates competency in delivery of care to a primarily adult population. The position would be located at Froedtert Hospital.

The ideal candidate for this role has experience in post-op care and a BSN.

About the unit

The ERU provides overnight care for patients recovering from outpatient surgery and certain GI or Interventional Radiology procedures. The majority of surgical patients cared for are those recovering from Eye, Oral, ENT, Orthopedic, Plastic, Urology, GYN, and General Surgery.

There are a total of 14 beds designated for Extended Recovery Unit patients:

•8 beds in the ERU
•6 beds on 4P

The patients staying in ERU beds receive quality care throughout their stay and are typically ready for discharge by 10:00 am the morning following their surgery or procedure.

Qualifications:
Clinical competence and experience in the care and management of target patient populations specific to area of employment.
Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice at a level normally acquired through completion of education at an accredited School of Nursing in order to be eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse is required. Upon hire any non-BSN nurse with less than one year of licensed registered nurse experience will be required to enroll in a BSN (or higher nursing degree) program. Acceptance into a program is expected within 15 months of hire and the degree program must be completed within 5 years of enrollment, or 6 years if program is MSN, DNP or PhD in Nursing. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is preferred. Requires current state of Wisconsin Registered Nurse License or a Multi-state Nursing License from a participating state in the NLC (Nurse Licensure Compact). American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required within 90 days of hire.

Under general direction, is responsible for ensuring the quality of medical, nursing and other health related services that is provided to each individual we serve. Provides clinical supervision to nursing staff assigned to Residences as well as Day Habs, implementing appropriate nursing care practices, standards and procedures. Ensures that all people we serve are receiving appropriate quality medical services and continuing care.
 

 Provides input into decisions regarding recruitment, hiring, orientation, performance evaluation, discipline and discharge of assigned staff.

· Provides clinical supervision to nursing staff 

· Oversees training and ensures competencies.

· Recommends and implements nursing care practices, standards, and procedures agency wide 

·Remains current in best practices via review of appropriate literature, attendance at professional conferences and meetings, or visitations to other providers.

· Visits each program site regularly to observe nursing staff and reviews medical records.

· Assists in developing and implementing policies and procedures agency wide

· Undertakes appropriate follow-up activities with each nurse including training and professional development activities

· Conducts frequent, periodic medical reviews to ensure quality of medical care provided
